Arrows Battle in Losses at Florida Tech on Monday

The Ursuline College softball team battled in a pair of losses at Florida Tech on Monday afternoon.

The Arrows and Panthers played three flawless innings to start game one before Ursuline broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning.

Junior Hannah Trent drew a one-out walk which was followed by an infield base hit from junior Sadie Jones to put two runners about for junior Leah Leshnack who delivered a three-run home run over the left field fence to make it 3-0. It was the fifth home run of the trip for Leshnack who hit four home runs in the season opener against Nyack.

The Panthers got a run back in the bottom of the sixth inning before tying the game with a pair of runs in the last of the seventh.

Florida Tech plated the winning run on a bunt in the bottom of the tenth inning that led to a close play at the plate.

Jones took a no-decision after tossing a career-high seven innings while allowing three runs on five hits. Senior Gina Rosshirt suffered the loss after allowing a run in 2 1/3 innings of relief work.

In game two, Jones got the offense started in the second inning with a double and a couple of batters later junior Karlie Wilbur doubled down the left field line to score two runs and give the Arrows a 2-0 lead.

Florida Tech quickly tied the game 2-2 in the bottom of the second inning and added single runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings to win 5-3.

Ursuline is back in action in Florida on Tuesday evening as they travel to Florida Southern University. The trip concludes on Wednesday morning with a match-up against Salem International.
