Soccer Beats Lake Erie in Dramatic Fashion, Clinch G-MAC Tournament Spot

The Ursuline College soccer team clinched its spot in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament for the seventh-consecutive season in dramatic fashion with a 2-1 overtime win at Lake Erie on Tuesday evening.

The Storm came out quickly in the opening five minutes when Brett Pauff finished a pass from Juliet Tyma to give Lake Erie a 1-0 advantage.

Lake Erie held the lead for the remainder of the first half despite Ursuline outshooting them 10-3 in the period.

It took until the 76th minute when senior Andie Widmer scored her first goal of the season to even the match 1-1 and force overtime.

The Arrows nearly scored a goal in the first overtime period, but a shot hit the post late in the frame that sent the match in to a final 10 minutes.

Senior Megan Rafac used a pass from Andie Widmer in the 103rd minute and found the back of the net for the second time this season to give the Arrows a 2-1 win and send them onto the postseason for the seventh straight year in the G-MAC.

Ursuline outshot Lake Erie 21-5 in the match including 16-5 in shots on goal.

The Arrows will travel to Ohio Valley to take on the Fighting Scots in a re-match of last season's G-MAC Semi-Finals. Kickoff is set for 3:00 PM on Saturday with the winner advancing to take on the winner of #4 Findlay and #5 Ohio Dominican at the highest remaining seed on Thursday November 1.

Earlier this season, Ursuline battled Ohio Valley to a 2-2 tie in Vienna against the defending conference champions. Freshman Dominique Buddenhagen scored a pair of goals including one in the final 11 minutes to even the match.
