Softball Sweeps Way Into G-MAC Tournament

The Ursuline College softball team clinched a spot in the G-MAC Tournament with a sweep of Ohio Valley on Friday. The Arrows took game one 3-2 and blanked the Fighting Scots 7-0 in game two.

After Ohio Valley took a 2-0 lead in the third inning, Ursuline got on the board in the home half of the fourth. Freshman Brooklyn Miller got the rally started with a one-out single and was moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by senior Kaitlin Krajcik. Senior Mackenzie Lebeda reached on an error that allowed Miller to score to make it 2-1. Junior Rosie Lyard drove in a pair of runs with a double to right field to put Ursuline front 3-2.

Senior Brittany Humbel picked up the win with five shutout innings of work out of the bullpen and allowed just one hit while striking out eight.

In game two, Lyard got the offense started again with a leadoff single in the first inning. Redshirt junior Brigitte Snow drove in a run with a base hit to make it 1-0 and Humbel followed with an RBI single to make it 2-0. Miller added a two-out triple that scored Humbel to cap a three-run first inning.

The Arrows added to their lead in the bottom of the third inning after Snow picked up a one-out double down the left field line and Humbel drew a walk. After a base hit by Miller loaded the bases, Krajick found a gap in right-center field to score two runs and make it 5-0.

Rosshirt picked up the complete game win with seven scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and striking out five.

Saturday's regular season finale was canceled due to rain.

Ursuline will now advance to the G-MAC Tournament which begins on Thursday in Xenia, Ohio.
