The Ursuline College softball team dropped a pair of road games at Cedarville on Wednesday afternoon. The Arrows fell 2-1 in game one and dropped the second game 5-1.
Â
In game one, both pitchers controlled the first four innings of the game allowing a combined three hits and no runs. With the game scoreless in the bottom of the fourth inning, Cedarville got a double and an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead. A throwing error by Ursuline allowed the second run to score and give the Yellow Jackets a 2-0 advantage.
Â
Still trailing 2-1 in the top of the seventh, the Arrows tried to rally after senior
Alison Porter started the inning with a single. Junior
Brittany Humbel followed with a base hit to give the Arrows two on with no outs. After a strikeout, freshman
Sadie Jones drove in a run with a base hit but Humbel was thrown out at third base to end the game.
Â
Rosshirt (3-8) took the loss by allowing two runs, one earned, on seven hits over five innings of work. She struck out three and walked two in the game. Jones pitched one inning and did not allow a hit and issued one walk.
Â
In game two, Cedarville scored three times in the first two innings to take an early 3-0 advantage. The Yellow Jackets added a pair of runs in the fifth and led 5-0 going to the bottom of the seventh.
Â
Once again the Arrows rally in their last at-bat came up short in game two. Humbel started the inning with a single and freshman
Hannah Trent also picked up a base hit. Freshman
Alicia Smith walked and the Arrows had the bases loaded with one out. Sophomore
Leah Leshnack reached on a fielder's choice which allowed the pinch runner
Ashlie Brown to score to make it 5-1 but the Arrows could not get another run across.
Â
Humbel (4-5) took the loss allowing three runs on five hits over two innings of work while walking a pair and striking out one. Jones worked three innings of relief and allowed two runs, one earned on three hits and Rosshirt worked a scoreless inning allowing one hit and struck out two.
