The Ursuline College soccer team returned home and earned a key Great Midwest Athletic Conference victory 2-1 over Malone on Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers opened the scoring in the 26
th minute when Molli Dunn checked into the match and moments later found the back of the net for her first goal of the season to put Malone in front 1-0.
After numerous scoring chances in the first half the Arrows scored their two quickest goals of the season. Junior
Steph Chlad finished an unassisted goal in front of the box to tie the match 1-1 and less than :30 second later senior
Cassie Cripe took followed a shot by freshman
Jill Bohling to make it 2-1.
The Arrows defense allowed just four second half chances, including one in the final :10 seconds to keep the Pioneers off the board.
Ursuline outshot Malone 19-10 in the match with 12 of their shots coming on goal. Senior goalkeeper
Helen Jazzar finished with seven saves on the afternoon.
The Arrows will face a red-hot Trevecca Nazarene team on Thursday afternoon at 3:30pm. The Trojans are 4-0-1 in their last five matches and defeated Kentucky Wesleyan 1-0 on Saturday. Ursuline currently holds a one-point advantage on Trevecca in the G-MAC standings.
Ursuline won the first match-up of the season in Nashville on September 17 when the Arrows got goals from
Aline Czaplicki and
Allie Moening.
