Ursuline Falls to Bellarmine 2-0 Sunday Afternoon

Box Score

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio--The Ursuline Arrows soccer team dropped a tough 2-0 match to the visiting Bellarmine University Knights on another steamy Sunday afternoon in Pepper Pike. Ursuline is now 1-1 on the season and will open conference play on Thursday.

Bellarmine (2-0), who was picked as the pre-season favorite in the GLVC, jumped out on the Arrows in the first seven minutes behind a goal from junior forward Mary Beth Gorham.

A strong defensive effort by the Knights limited the Arrows to just a pair of shots in the first half but Ursuline continued to battle all afternoon. Ursuline trailed 1-0 at the end of the first half.

With the game still in the balance at 1-0 in the final five minute, Gorham added her second goal of the afternoon to seal the win for Bellarmine.

The Arrows were outshot 9-6 on the afternoon. Junior goalkeeper Helen Jazzar finished the afternoon with five saves while Knights' goalie Hannah Poteet picked up three.

Ursuline finished the weekend series with the GLVC with a spilt after Friday's win over Indianapolis who defeated Lake Erie on Sunday afternoon.

The Arrows will now turn their attention to G-MAC play when they open up their title defense on Thursday against Salem International in Salem, WV. The match is slated to kickoff at 2:00pm.
