Box Score PEPPER PIKE, Ohio- The Ursuline Arrows soccer team started off the 2015 season with a 2-1 win over the visiting University of Indianpolis on Friday afternoon. The Arrows improve to 1-0 on the season while Indy falls to 0-1 in 2015.
Ursuline (1-0) jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal from senior forward Vanessa Consiglio who found the back of the net at the 9:53 mark in the first half. The G-MAC's reigning Offensive Player of the Year added her second goal of the game at the 32:10 mark on a beautiful pass from junior Cassie Cripe. Junior goalkeeper Helen Jazzar notched two saves in the first half to keep the Greyhounds which allowed the Arrows to take a 2-0 lead into the half.
The second half saw a much more focused attack by The Greyhounds (0-1). Freshman Sierra Singer put Indianapolis on the board at the 49:47 mark with her first goal of the season and the Arrows saw their lead trimmed to 2-1. Singer would have multiple chances to score late in the game but Jazzar picked up three late key saves to preserve the win.
Jazzar finished the game with five saves while her counterpart junior Emma Crenshaw also had five. Indianapolis took 18 shots compared to 12 for Ursuline.
The Arrows will have a quick turnaround as they welcome GLVC pre-season favorite Bellarmine to Pepper Pike on Sunday afternoon at Noon. The Knights defeated Lake Erie College 3-0 on Friday night. The match can be heard live on the Ursuline Sports Network on Sunday afternoon.
