PEPPER PIKE, Ohio- The defending G-MAC regular season and tournament champion Ursuline Arrows soccer team kicks off the season with a busy weekend. On Friday afternoon, the Arrows will host The University of Indianapolis and follow that up with Bellarmine on Sunday afternoon.
The Arrows, who finished 15-4 in 2014 return significant scoring threats on their front line with senior Vanessa Consiglio and junior Cassie Cripe. The duo combined for 18 goals last season and Consiglio picked up G-MAC Offensive Player of the Year while Cripe was named to the All-Conference First Team. Consiglio also led the nation in assists during the 2014-15 campaign.
Ursuline also returns All-Conference First Team junior goaltender Helen Jazzar who ranked sixth in the nation last season in save percentage. She also ranked fourth in the G-MAC with 86 saves and was tied with two others with a conference best seven shutouts.
The University of Indianapolis Greyhounds finished last season with a 5-9-4 record and compete in the GLVC. The Greyhounds were picked 13 out of 16 teams in the GLVC and have a new head coach in Holly Cox. The Hounds return 10 letter winners including six starters from their 2014 squad. Junior forward Jocelyn Evans returns as the team's leading goal scorer from a year ago.
On Sunday afternoon, the Arrows will welcome in a Bellarmine squad that was picked as the pre-season favorite in the GLVC. The Knights return seven starters and welcome in 11 newcomers to a team that went 14-4-3 in 2014. The Knights offense will be paced by junior forward Mary Beth Gorham who scored a team best 11 goals last season. Sophomore Katie Fernandez is coming off a freshman season where she tallied eight goals.
Friday's game against Indianapolis will start at 4pm while Sunday's game will kick off at Noon. Both games can be heard live on the UC Sports Network.
