PEPPER PIKE, Ohio – The Ursuline College soccer team had its four-match winning streak snapped by Tiffin University on Wednesday (Sep. 24) afternoon as the Dragons got the better of the Arrows, 2-1, in a non-conference game.

UC is now 5-2 overall while Tiffin picked up its first win of the year and improved to 1-5. The Dragons entered Wednesday having scored just four goals in their first five matches but mustered a pair of scores against UC. Nonetheless, it was the first win for Tiffin's first year head coach Melissa Bigg.

Tiffin's Svetlana Gudenkova opened the scoring at 26:34 when she beat UC sophomore goalkeeper Helen Jazzar for her third goal of the year. Gudenkova assisted on TU's next goal which came a little more than four minutes into the second period when she set up Drew Plummer for her first goal of 2014.

Ursuline wouldn't go away quietly and redshirt freshman forward Taylor Dackin put UC right back into the match when she scored for the second time this season in the 53rd minute. Her goal came off a pass from junior forward Vanessa Consiglio, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Athlete of the Week.

That was all Ursuline could manage and Tiffin got back on the bus with its first win of the year. TU freshman goalkeeper Samantha Ortenzi made eight saves while picking up her first collegiate win. Jazzar made three saves in the losing effort. UC outshot TU, 18-15.

Ursuline will re-enter Great Midwest Athletic Conference play on Saturday (Sep. 27) when Cedarville University comes to Pepper Pike for a 1:00 p.m. match that can be heard on the Ursuline College Sports Network.

Last year, the Yellow Jackets won both matches in the regular season before the Arrows knocked CU out of the conference tournament in the semifinal round.
