CEDARVILLE, Ohio – For the second straight match, the Ursuline College soccer team surrendered a goal on a penalty kick. Unlike Tuesday's (Sep. 24) match against Marygrove, Saturday's penalty kick conversion cost the Arrows a victory.
Cedarville's Kaitlyn Stiles beat UC goalkeeper Helen Jazzar to convert her PK attempt at 37:39 to put the Lady Jackets up 2-1 and the hosts held on for dear life to earn the victory.
Ursuline's two-match winning streak came to an end and the Arrows are now 5-4 overall and 1-2 in the G-MAC while the Lady Jackets improved to 6-2 overall and are unblemished in three conference matches.
CU's Jacoby Ziegler entered the day tied with Ursuline junior Paige Rowan for the conference lead with seven goals. Ziegler tallied her eighth goal in the 22nd minute of the match off an assist from Elise Hurley to put the Lady Jackets on the scoreboard first.
Ursuline sophomore Vanessa Consiglio continued her recent tear with the game-tying goal at 35:26 when she had a one-on-one opportunity and put a low shot inside the post the even the score. The Milton, Ontario, Canada, product has now scored in six of her last seven contests and has recorded at least one goal in three straight matches.
Unfortunately for Ursuline, Consiglio's goal was the last time UC got on the board as It remained a tied game for a little more than two minutes until Stiles decided the outcome on the PK.
Cedarville put seven shots on target, three more than the Arrows. Jazzar made four saves before giving way to junior Amanda Ponchak who stopped the two shots that were sent her way in 32:33 of action. Hanna Harris made three stops for Cedarville to help her team to victory.
Ursuline will return home to host a non-conference match with Point Park University on Tuesday (Oct. 1) at 3:30 p.m. Max Radigan will call the game live on the Ursuline College Sports Network.
After Tuesday's match with the Pioneers, the Arrows have four straight G-MAC matches on the docket.
