Box Score

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio – Thursday's (Oct. 10) Great Midwest Athletic Conference soccer showdown between Ursuline College and Alderson Broaddus University had a little bit of everything. All that matters, ultimately, is the final score and the Arrows finished the match on top of the Battlers, 4-2.

Ursuline is now 9-4 overall and 4-2 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference while the Battlers dip to 3-6-2 overall and 2-2-1 in conference play.

Just 59 seconds into the game, Alderson Broaddus was whistled for a foul in the box and UC junior Paige Rowan converted the PK for her 13th goal of the season and in the blink of an eye, Ursuline was on top 1-0.

Rowan's frontline partner Vanessa Consiglio widened the gap at 23:28 when she scored off a nice cross from the right side courtesy of junior Anna Feitl. Consiglio's ninth score of the year is already two more than she totaled last year as a rookie.

The Arrows took a 2-0 lead into the break after outshooting the Battlers 7-2 in the first period. With Ursuline looking to pull away, ABU cut into the deficit with an own goal at 50:05. Less than four minutes later, the favor was returned when the Arrows added a score thanks to an own goal to make it a 3-1 game.

Freshman Cassie Cripe scored the old fashioned way with an authoritative kick from straight on to make it a three-goal contest at 64:40 before Maria Mitchell scored off an assist from Elaina Ruiz to decide the final score.

Ursuline's freshman goalkeeper Helen Jazzar made two saves, including a beauty early in the first half when it was still a 1-0 game. Junior Amanda Ponchak relieved her for the final 13 minutes and made a stellar save of her own to keep it a two-score match.

The Arrows outshot the Battlers 17-8 and the home team was called for 19 fouls, 14 more than Alderson Broaddus.

Ursuline will take tomorrow off from competition before hosting Davis & Elkins College on Saturday (Oct. 12). That match will start at 1:00 p.m.
