Box Score

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio   Freshman Taylor MacIver scored a school record five goals as the Ursuline soccer team got back on track with a 6-1 win over Salem International University on Tuesday (Sep. 11).

The Arrows haven’t dropped two home decisions in a row since the end of the 2009 season. After Tuesday’s effort, that streak stays intact. Ursuline dropped its home opener on Saturday (Sep. 8) to Walsh Univeristy, 1-0, but responded in a big way to knock off the Fighting Tigers.

Ursuline is now 3-1 on the young year while Salem International falls to 1-3.

MacIver scored her first goal of the match in the third minute when she dribbled from right of the box and beat SIU goalkeeper Whitney Brydge. Just seven minutes later, MacIver scored her second unassisted goal of the contest.

The Fighting Tigers cut the deficit in half when
Alexandria McIntosh scored her second goal of the season in the 17th minute.

It remained a 2-1 game until the 40th minute when MacIver got on the board again, this time on an assist by Alexis Zubick. Just 54 seconds before the half, the rookie added her fourth score - this time on a ball from Tara White - to give Ursuline a 4-1 lead at the
intermission.

In the 53rd minute, White set up MacIver again for her school record fifth goal of the game.

For good measure,
MacIver's former club teammate with the Toronto Lady Lynx, Vanessa Consiglio, scored her second goal of the season to decide the final margin.

Senior Rachael Smith played the first half in goal to improve her record to 3-1. Junior Jill Nazor handled the goalkeeping duties in the second half for her first action of the season. The aggressive offensive attack made life easy on the Arrows defense as Ursuline outshot Salem 24-3.

The Arrows are idle until next Tuesday (Sep. 18) when Tiffin comes to town. That match will be the final contest of a three-match homestand before the Arrows head to the road for the rest of the month.
