PEPPER PIKE, Ohio – A goal by Sarah Holmes in the 40th minute pushed visiting Alderson-Broaddus College past Ursuline College, 1-0, in what was the final tune-up before the Arrows begin Great Midwest Athletic Conference play on Saturday (Oct. 6).
With the loss, the Arrows dip to 4-3 overall while the Battlers improved to 6-3-1.
Holmes goal was unassisted and came on a Battler throw in. After a player from each club attempted to head a loose ball, Holmes came away with it and beat Ursuline senior goalkeeper Rachael Smith from left of the goal.
The Arrows had a chance with eight minutes left in the second half but a Battler defender got in front of a shot on goal for a team save after goalie Kate Laird fell to the ground.
Alderson-Broaddus outshot Ursuline, 12-10. The Battlers put a total of five shots on goal, three of which were saved by Smith in addition to a team save.
