Katie Cappello is the Athlete of the Month for April 2012, due to her outstanding performances in Track and Field during March. For Cappello, this is her second Athlete of the Month, as she earned the award during the basketball season.
During the first outdoor meet of the season, Cappello had a first place finish, a second, and a third during the meet, which earned her the outstanding athlete of the meet award. She finished third in the long jump (4.82 meters); second in the 100-meter hurdles (16.16 seconds) behind teammate Fontaine McCaulley (16.10 seconds); and Cappello won the high jump with a school record height of 1.60 meters.
During the meet at Wheeling Jesuit, Cappello captured a fifth place finish in the 100-meter hurdles and in the high jump, and a seventh place finish in the long jump.
She closed out the month in the final weekend with another great performance, this time at the Yellow Jacket (Cedarville) Collegiate Open. She finished fifth in the long jump, eighth in the 100-meter hurdles, and highlighting her afternoon was her first place finish in the high jump.
She scored 16 points for the Arrows, guiding them to a fifth place finish of 11 teams. In fact, her 16 points were more than five teams totaled as an entire team.
