Shepherdstown, W.Va. – After posting 11 shutouts a season ago, the Ursuline soccer team picked up right where they left off. The Arrows blanked host Shepherd and won the season opener for both teams by a 1-0 count thanks to a goal in the 31st minute from freshman Taylor MacIver.

The rookie forward took a ball from senior forward Heather Beachy and beat Shepherd goalkeeper Elizabeth Wise to provide the only tally of the match.

Senior goalkeeper Rachael Smith made two saves - one in each half - to earn the victory. The Arrows limited the Rams to just six shots while Ursuline attempted 13 shots in the contest, two of which were on goal.

The Arrows return to action tomorrow with a 2:00 p.m. match against Pitt-Johnstown (1-0) that will be held at Richland High School. The Lady Cats are coming off a 5-3 win over Lincoln University in their season opener on Thursday (Aug. 30) thanks to four first half goals. Pitt-Johnstown played three goalkeepers throughout the course of the match.
